Decorating

I sat back and thought yesterday, 'i have never decorated before.' i never really decorated my bedroom (still has the pink lampshade mom put in), my dorm rooms, and now, my apartment.  i think the psychology behind it was that decorating was an expense that was not a worthwhile investment.  i do fine with white walls, and i always knew that i would be moving on. add in westmont's strict standards and inclination to fine you at a little nail hole in the wall, and just like that i never made a space my own.
i have had the same mentality with my apartment, up until about 2 days ago.  something triggered, maybe realizing that i could be in this apartment for 3 years, and i decided to do an apartment make-over.
(love the antlers)
i'm having a hard time settling on a style.  but what is soothing is knowing that the way i decorate now does not have to be the way i will decorate a home one day.  i can experiment! so i need your help.  i want some combination of old dark wood scottish library, crisp clean and soothing spa, lots of lightness and airiness, outdoor elements, and a bit of eclectic charm. while still looking cohesive.
(look at all the great stuff in this one: light and airy, chandelier, old birdcage, plant, painting on wall, giant mirror)
